Legislative Activities/Calendar

 

 

The following are suggestions for use throughout the year with your specific legislative calendar.  You may need to rearrange or adjust these activities accordingly to fit your state’s annual legislative cycle

 

 

Activities to consider BEFORE YOUR STATE LEGISLATIVE SESSION BEGINS

 

 

  • Happy New Year email/letter to legislators – include at least one  key campaign message including eagerness to work with legislator throughout the year on issues affecting the automotive industry.

 

 

  • News release to state/national industry press – announcing state’s participation in Legislator Awareness and Education Program including goals/objectives. 

 

 

  • Provide update or alert to industry participants showcasing achievements in association’s increased outreach and education of legislators throughout the year.

 

  • Send an “Industry Alert” to state association/aftermarket company members identifying issues state association/company will be working on in their behalf in the coming legislative session including work being done to educate legislators through the ASAAA campaign.

 

 

  • Pitch opinion editorials to state newspapers or newspapers in target legislators’ districts.

 

 

  • Consider holding a legislative day at the Capitol during legislative session and begin planning before the session begins.

 

 

 

 

  • Draft legislative proclamation/resolution touting the considerable contributions of the Automotive Aftermarket industry to the economy, environment and consumers and pitch to potential authors for introduction into the next legislative session.

 

 

 

 

Activities to consider WHEN YOUR STATE LEGISLATURE IS IN SESSION  

 

  • News release to state/national industry press – announcing state’s participation in Legislator Education and Awareness Program including goals/objectives.

 

 

  • Make personal contact with legislator(s) – schedule either legislative in-district meeting with association members/company executives, or personal visits to state capitol to advance key campaign messages and promote state association /aftermarket company.

 

 

  • Send an “Industry Alert” to state association/aftermarket company members identifying issues state association is working on their behalf and work being done to educate legislators through ASAAA awareness project. 

 

 

  • Schedule a breakfast/lunch/dinner meeting with key legislator (committee chair or member) to discuss your association/company and the industry.

 

 

  • Pitch opinion editorial to state newspaper or newspapers in target legislator’s districts.

 

 

  • Provide update or alert to industry participants showcasing achievements in association/company increased outreach and education of legislators throughout the year.

 

 

  • Post social network message on association/company activities including Facebook or Twitter posts (examples:  Car Care Month involvement, legislative visit or event, important legislative or regulatory initiative).

 

 

 

 

  • Host BBQ or other events like customer appreciation day for targeted legislators at or near a member location with possible tour of member/company facility.

 

 

 

 

Activities to consider WHEN YOUR STATE LEGISLATURE IS OUT OF SESSION OR ON BREAK

 

  • News release to state/national industry press – announcing state’s participation in Legislator Education and Awareness Program including goals/objectives. 

 

 

  • Make personal contact with Legislator(s) – schedule legislative in district meeting with Association members/company executives to advance key campaign messages and promote state association/aftermarket company.

 

 

  • Provide update or alert to industry participants showcasing achievements in association’s increased outreach and education of legislators throughout the year.

 

 

  • Schedule a breakfast/lunch/dinner meeting with key legislator (committee chair or member) and association members/company executives to discuss your association/company and issues impacting your members.

 

 

  • Pitch opinion editorial to state newspaper or newspapers in target legislator’s districts.

 

 

  • Mail holiday cards to legislators (either full legislature or key targets) include a few key campaign messages.

 

 

  • Draft legislative proclamation/resolution touting the considerable contributions of the AA industry to the economy, environment and consumers and pitch to potential authors for introduction into the next legislative session.

 

 

  • Provide end of year recap or alert to industry participants showcasing achievements in association/company increased outreach and education of legislators throughout the year.

 

 

  • Thank you letter or correspondence to key legislators thanking them for their interest in the industry and include key campaign messages.

 

 

  • Host BBQ or other events like customer appreciation day for targeted legislators at or near a member location with possible tour of member/company facility.
